HSLDA: Committee Meeting Rescheduled—Contact on Behalf of Johanssons

The Swedish Social Services Committee, originally scheduled to discuss this situation two weeks ago, will now convene on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 to discuss what to do with 7-year-old Dominic Johansson. If you have not already done so, HSLDA urges you to email or phone the members of the Social Services Committee and request that Dominic be returned to his parents, Christer and Annie Johansson. This tragic situation is important to everyone concerned about the future of parental freedoms. Please take a moment to support the Johannson family in this way.

As someone with Swedish ancestors (my father's family immigrated to the United States from Sweden), I'm disappointed that Swedish courts would deprive a child of his parents because they disagreed with the "poor" decisions those parents may have made in regards to the child's education.

2009-08-05 Rohus uppmärksammar Dominic Johansson

Jenny på Rohus, Riksorganisationen för Hemundervisning i Sverige, postar ett meddelande på deras blogg.

"Enligt skollagen ska alla barn gå i skolan" - Pojke tvångsomhändertagen av polis delvis på grund av hemundervisning.

För att få hemundervisa i Sverige måste man ansöka och få tillstånd för det. Familjen hade alltså inte fått formellt godkännande att hemundervisa, men eftersom hemundervisning är ett lagligt alternativ till skolundervisning är det oerhört förvånande att man tar till så kraftiga åtgärder mot familjen som tvångsomhändertagande av polis. Det för mina tankar till Tyskland som med sin nazityska skollag från 1938 förbjuder hemundervisning och där hemundervisande familjer trakasseras och hotas med färngelse och tvångsomhändertagande. Men jag trodde inte att det skulle hända i Sverige.
